this is my college magazine with it's masthead and tagline on.
i chose the name 'Bucks' as an interpretation of 'Books' but i gave it a school/college twist.
i used the tagline 'Have You Got Your Bucks Today?' as it is simple and easy to remember. it also has a college/school twist.

Masthead

Masthead
the title of the magazine, often at the top of the page as it is the first thing people see.
the font style and colour needs to be chosen carefully to help sell the magazine, it also gives indication about the content of the magazine.
similarly, the name of the magazine will be carefully chosen.

for example, this magazine 'Good Housekeeping' has a simple font, and the colour chosen, pink, represents women or girls, who it mostly the target audience of the magazine.
also, the fact the title is at the top, makes it so it is one of the first things the reader sees.

Tag Line.
this goes near the masthead, and is sometimes attached to it. it shows that the magazine is about or who it might be aimed at.

Central Image.
this is one of the most important parts of the front cover as it catches a reader's eye before they look at the printed text. the central image will be relevent to the magazine's purposes and audience, and will often be strongly related to the feature atricle.
in front cover analysis, much can be said about the central image. so much can be denoted and connotede from this image.

The Cover Model.
this may be a magazine, or well known individual connected with the magazine's genre. or it may be a photographic model.

research work

in the first two sessions of research, i looked at the different types of music magazine that available to buy right now.
i looked at the mise-en-scene of the cover, the target audience, the advertising in the magazine, the genre and the editing techniques that are used.
This is what i found on Q magazine.

-         Was originally ‘Cue’ as in a record cue, but was changed to ‘Q’ so they were not mistaken for the snooker magazine.
-         Mise on scene; white background with half of the page taken up by the cover star.
-         Target audience; men over 18 with disposable income.
-         Advertising; car adverts, alcohol adverts, clothing adverts.
-         Genre; mainstream bands, indie bands, studio rock bands.

front cover photo ideas

I think I am going to use this picture on the front cover, as it is simple yet it fits in with the school idea.
The fact the students are infront of lockers shows the school/college and the fact they are in casual clothes shows a comfortable and casual college.

front cover mock up

when thinking of a name for my magazine, i thought about making it fun and have a link to college work.
i chose on the name Bucks. and the slogan, Have You Got Your Bucks Today?
i thought about what sort of things that are on the front cover of a magazine, and decided on things such as
Top 10.. things such as recommended books and stationary.
i also thought about things like contests that people could enter and decided on signing up for student council.
